• Carefully researched to be as close as possible to the original trading route taken.
• Covering over 30 of the original old ports.
• Using only the daily tidal currents and Rō (skulling oar) to move.
• Time to take around 5-6 weeks.
• First time in 300 years, (Edo period) since this journey and the route was last used.

Daniel Springett

From my early years traveling with my parents, both scientists, throughout Africa, Australia, and Europe to building an adobe low-energy house and organic farm in New Zealand and sailing with my family around SE Asia aboard a traditionally styled yacht, my life has been a testament to the balance between the personal quest for ease and convenience and the desire for nature to thrive in all its forms.
I’ve long been fascinated by the relationships between humans and the natural world, observing how each shapes the other’s growth and existence. This journey through the Japan Inland Sea explores how we can embrace the best of both worlds, learning lessons from the past while navigating the promises of a more equitable future.
While modern conveniences offer undeniable benefits, this voyage is a tribute to the timeless and sustainable practices that have gracefully coexisted with nature for centuries. It is a discovery of how we can embrace the best of both worlds, cherishing the lessons from the past while navigating the promises of a more equitable future.
